I love all the seasons for their own reasons, and Fall is no exception. I was going to write about how it's my favorite season, but then I recall this same feeling with every turn throughout the year. I think I just like that the seasons change. Here. In Pennsylvania. Remember, I grew up in Florida- where we had one season all year long, and Christmas was marked by a cool breeze. I love the excitement that comes when something is at its end. Complete. I love the promises that come with something new. Hope. I love the cycle and patterns of things that come around again- like water in summer and Christmas in winter. And I love the opportunities to create new repetitions in my life that face me when a new season approaches- new phases as the boys get older and as we grow and learn and figure out what works and what doesn't.
Anyway- all this to lead up to this new season in the Art Ministry.
The Fall usually slows things down with me- with Thanksgiving and Christmas plans keeping us all busy. I usually end the year in October with our traditional not-so-traditional pumpkin adventures. In PRESCHOOL ART on October 16 we will be decorating our pumpkins preschool style. That means paint, glitter, and other sparkly and messy things. :) We wouldn't have it any other way. Please register as I will be buying small pumpkins for the kids. I want to make sure your little pumpkin actually gets a pumpkin. Suggested cost is $3 for the class.
In Art&Fellowship on October 23rd we will have Extreme Pumpkin Carving. And it's BYOP. That means bring your own pumpkin, bring tools if you have them (I have some), and bring your ideas- your creative ideas that go beyond what's traditional. I have lots of beautiful templates, but feel free to bring your own. We will start at 7pm and go until we're done. And for fun, why not make this a contest? I'll see if I can convince Pastor Adin to announce a winner Sunday morning and award a cool prize. I'll post more details soon as I get some answers for you. In the meantime, please register so I can make sure we have enough space. There is no fee for this class. Children are welcome if they can work somewhat independently and can respect the space, as there will be lots of slippery pumpkin innards around (if you know what I mean). ;) Of course, we will have options to paint and decorate your pumpkins, too.
By the way- the OPEN STUDIO class is no longer happening. There just wasn't enough interest to come on a Friday morning. But keep an eye out for changes coming in January. I anticipate some small changes that will create greater interest and get us creating on a more consistent basis. As always, if you feel led to serve on this team, let me know!
Have a blessed and beautiful Fall.
