Here are some thoughts that came to mind as I spent the several hours completing my page (posted here): A waste of time. Feelings of guilt. Surely I have other things to do that are more productive, more important. But then I thought about how our go-go lifestyle teaches us that it is wrong to sit and be still. And yet, God asks us to. Be still and know that I am God. Psalm 46:10. I know this verse applies to so much more than sitting quietly coloring on paper. But it is moments like these when we pause that we have great opportunity to hear His voice. Consider it training to embrace stillness without guilt and condemnation. This is vital- to feed our souls, to take rest, to hear His voice, to undo the busy rhythm. To simply sit in peace and quiet. Ah, I know that deep in my heart there is a confession of thirst for this kind of rest. How about you, friends? Maybe you will be inspired to google a page that interests you, print it out, and gather your coloring pencils, markers or crayons. May you find rest and peace in your hearts today.
Coloring pages are not just for kids. Have you seen the many beautiful books and printouts with coloring pages for adults? Just google adult coloring pages and see what pops up. What a fun and relaxing activity to just sit in stillness and be. Last Friday night we had a great time in community tackling our "serious" coloring pages. I'm talking details and designs that are challenging yet easy, if you know what I mean. They take some patience, but reap a great reward. And really, anyone can do them.

Whether you are loving the flowering trees or suffering under the wrath of allergies, FLOWERS are the topic of discussion at the next preschool art. We will be painting with flowers, reading about flowers, crafting flowers and doing experiments with flowers. Bring your little ones May 15th at 10am.
Tonight in Art & Fellowship we will once again create an atmosphere for encounter with God. We are finishing up our 3 month reflective series and tonight's theme is LIVING WATER and RESTORATION. Come experience God through art. I am believing for hearts to be refreshed! Please don't feel like you can't come because you are not skilled enough. It's not about what you are able to do, but what He is able to do in you. This is a simple project this month that ANYONE can do. Come give it a try. Stop by some time between 6 and 9pm.
Hey all my preschool buddies, have you noticed the weather is getting warmer? But we've also had lots and lots of rain! That's a good thing, though, because it's just God's way of watering all his beautiful plants and trees so they can start blooming an incredible array of flowers. This Friday may be sunny, but in our preschool class we'll talk all about rain. Come ready to make some rain instruments, create some wonderful rain art, and even do a rain science project. It will be a lot of fun! See you there... And please don't forget to register so I can prepare all my supplies. Thanks! (Classes are free but if you're able, there is a $2 suggested donation to replenish supplies)
So ugly to look at, but what a reminder how ugly our words can be. I believe words of fire and death create thick, deep roots that entangle and ensnare. Felt convicted to guard my tongue as God led me to create this. James 3:6 "The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. " So in March we focused on confession and we had a great evening connecting with God through clay. I created this, and yes, every time I look at it I think about how ugly it looks. But that is a good thing. We may not visually see what our words look like, but I'm sure if we could we would often be horrified. I know I would. So this serves as a little intrusive reminder into my otherwise aesthetically organized world to guard my tongue from speaking words of death- words that cut down, accuse, kill, dampen, slander or scar. Words are powerful, and they can hurt. I'm so thankful for how God is moving on the fourth Friday nights at Pathway. Feel free to join us any time. We meet between the hours of 6 and 9pm. Confession is an act of honesty and courage - an act of entrusting ourselves, beyond sin, to the mercy of a loving and forgiving God.
--Pope John Paul 2 In anticipation of celebrating all Jesus has done for us through the cross, through forgiveness, and through His love, we are focusing on confession this Friday night at art&fellowship. This will once again be an intimate time between you and God, where you will hear His voice through the medium of clay. This is a beautiful medium and you may find that you truly feel the presence of the Holy Spirit as you co-labor with Him in your creation. I hope you come with expectation to encounter God through art. He is ready and willing to speak, you only need to show up. Open to anyone (man/woman, teen/adults), between 6 and 9pm. Please register. Well wouldn't you know... I didn't think we'd actually get any snow tomorrow, but it looks pretty confirmed that 3-6 inches are heading our way- and starting early morning to boot. Looks like preschool class will most likely be postponed. Check out the facebook page to stay updated on whether or not it will be cancelled and also to vote on which day next week works best to reschedule. It will be either the 25th or the 27th. This Easter craft is just too awesome to skip!
Hello to my little preschool friends and their parents. We've had fun creating art these last two months and I hope you're learning something new! In January we talked about SNOW-SNOW-SNOW, and although we plastered "Let It Snow" all over our artwork, I'm sure by now we are ready for WARM-SUN-SHINE. I'm sure it will be just a matter of weeks before we can all go play outside, and in a few short months we'll be taking our art to the sidewalks once more. In February we talked about LOVE. We learned that Jesus wants us to love Him first, then our neighbors and ourselves. All our art and sensory stations focused on this truth. We made beautiful cards for Jesus, special artwork for someone we care about, and a beaded heart for ourselves. Hey, by the way, have you noticed that we have a special new easel just for all of you? Thanks to our friend, Crystal Altland, for the donation! What a treat. I know you all enjoyed using it last month. Let your unique creative expression flow! Also new is that we've moved to the larger Kidz Konnect room, allowing you more room to create and play. How great is that? So what will March bring? As we prepare ourselves for Easter, we will focus on the cross. We will learn about how much God loved us, that He sent His son, Jesus, to earth to take all of our sin away. I look forward to creating some beautiful art with you. Don't forget to register so I know how many friends to expect on March 20th. Hope to see you there!
What a great start to a new year! On the 16th we had 12 little boys and girls join us for the preschool craft day. We learned about snow, painted a snowman, created a snow globe and we even made snow- with shaving cream and baking soda, that is. But it felt pretty cool. I think the kids really enjoyed themselves and I hope the parents had a chance to meet and chat and spend time in fellowship. On the 23rd, 15 adults met for Art & Fellowship. We played with ink. Really a neat medium- fun to work with and explore. What I think is so wonderful about these nights is that we get people who feel they have artistic talent as well as people who feel they don't. The big picture is that we have fun and play and spend time in communion. I always am so blessed by those who take a chance and come out and don't let their fears stop them. Often they find that it's just enjoyable to sit with others and unleash a creative part in them that certainly does exist. We all have expression, and each person's expression looks different. Want to see some samples from both classes? Visit the gallery. Next month we will be focusing on LOVE. Come on out and play and let us love on each other through fellowship. {Please register for classes so I can guarantee art supplies} Here is a link to a beautiful ink technique you might enjoy and want to try for yourself. Don't have ink at home? Come out on the 4th Friday during the OPEN STUDIO and use the art supplies that are provided. (Between 10am and 1pm) |
